About Coffee Alternatives

An independent editorial resource for life after (or around) coffee.

What this site is

Coffee Alternatives is a small editorial site about everything people try when they’re cutting back on coffee, quitting it, or just curious about what else is out there. That includes:

  • Herbal coffees — chicory, carob, barley, dandelion, roasted to taste coffee-like
  • Mushroom coffees — blends with lion’s mane, chaga, reishi, cordyceps
  • Ancient and traditional drinks — matcha, yerba mate, rooibos, brewed cacao
  • The research — what peer-reviewed studies actually say about caffeine, sleep, anxiety, adrenal health, and pregnancy
  • How-to — brewing methods, recipes, taste pairings

We aren’t a coffee-hate site. Many of us still drink coffee sometimes. We’re interested in the full picture: when coffee works, when it stops working, what comes next, and how to make that transition feel less like punishment.

How we work

We test everything we review. Every product we cover has been brewed multiple times by at least one person on the team, usually with two or three water types and two or three preparation methods. We score honestly.

We cite sources. Every health claim links to a primary source — a peer-reviewed paper, a regulatory body, or a clinician’s published position. We use hedged language because the science is often hedged.

We work with personas. Some of our writers are individual people; “Editorial Team” is our byline for group-written pieces like roundups. Meet the team →

We take money. Some product links on this site are affiliate links — if you buy through them, we earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. This never affects our ranking or our recommendation. See our full disclosure for details.

Who owns this site

Coffee Alternatives is owned and operated by Teeccino, Inc., a California-based herbal coffee company. We’re up-front about this on the disclosure page. But this site is editorially independent: Teeccino products appear in our roundups when they genuinely earn a spot — and they’re never the only brand we cover. We’d rather be the honest voice in a loud category than a brochure for one company.

If you ever feel we’ve crossed that line, tell us. We’d rather hear it.

A note on safety

This site is for information, not medical advice. Always talk to a clinician before changing your caffeine intake during pregnancy, while nursing, while on medications (especially antidepressants, anti-anxiety meds, ADHD meds, or blood-pressure meds), or if you have a diagnosed condition. The “natural” status of herbal coffees does not guarantee they interact benignly with everything.
